Chances are Remote – Pros and cons of remote oil filters

There are modifications or additions you are able to make to your car for regular maintenance to be a lot easier on you. To make changing oil easier, a vehicle owner can install a remote oil filter. The basics of it are to install an adapter kit and mounting bracket for the new filter, with to and from hoses running to and from the new location of the oil filter. It can make changing oil a lot easier, and if done properly there are virtually no risks.

Striking oil

You will find not many vehicles, be they car, truck, SUV, van or motorcycle, that do not have a remote oil filter kit available. A remote kit won’t exactly break the bank, either. You shouldn’t have to spend more than $ 100. The job isn’t really terribly complex or time consuming, so even if you have a mechanic install it the job won’t cost too much. You simply install the adapter kit, install a mounting bracket where you want the filter to go, and run send/return hoses from the filter to the original port.

Little to be lost

There really isn’t a downside. The benefit of the modification is mostly for the DIY auto repair types, as the only loss is the cost of parts and possibly labor. If you don’t change your own oil, there is no advantage other than being kind to your mechanic. The upside is that it makes changing the oil filter a cinch. The only time you’ll be under that auto will be to remove and then replace the drain plug from the oil pan. You need to be changing the oil about every 3,000 miles anyway. The filter is changed as it normally would be.

The sum total

As far as modifications go, installing a remote oil filter is not complicated or expensive. It won’t save you lots of money, but simply makes your own maintenance just a little easier. It will minimize the time you spend on your back during oil changes, and that could be a blessing if your car is low to the ground.
