Only one person died within the recent San Andres, Columbia crash. The plane crashed during the landing. The reason for the accident isn’t really totally certain, but it appears to be a lightning strike. Only one death resulted from the crash after it was all over, and the crash itself did no damage to anything other than the plane. The pilot has been credited as being central to the relative lack of a loss of life within the incident, and also the minimal damage to anything other than the plane itself.
Boeing 737 fragmented on the runway
The flight from Bogota took off for San Andres in the middle of the night. As AIRES Flight 8250 approached the runway in bad weather, the plane started to shake. As the plane descended, the pilot started an emergency landing just short of the runway when it began to fragment on landing. Authorities initially credited a down draft as the cause, though others including eyewitnesses attribute a lightning strike on the plane as the cause, according to CNN. The pilot also saw a bolt of lightning hit the plane. The plane initially broke into two pieces at Gustavo Rojas Pinillo airport. No damage occurred save for the plane.
Only a single fatality
A single fatality occurred, when a 65-year-old passenger had a heart attack after the crash, as outlined by Bloomberg. Six individuals came out of the accident completely unscathed. The rest of passengers and crew had injuries, but nobody is not expected for making a full recovery. The plane was carrying at least 127 passengers and crew members.
Pilot made all the difference
You would be hard pressed to find a group of individuals better trained and skilled than professional pilots. Not only do they have to navigate a very complex machine through a very precise trajectory, they also have to know precisely what to do when things go wrong. The job affords little wiggle room and there is tremendous pressure involved in the job. Flight attendants are also, if the overnight sensation Steven Slater is any sort of indicator of the pressures involved within the air travel trade. The pilot of AIRES Flight 8250 should be hailed as a hero.
